ベトナムプログラム(担当：Paul先生)
ベトナムプログラムは研修先の地域で実際に起きている問題について学び、その問題を地域の人と一緒に解決していくことを目的としています。これまで、研修先のホァビン村では、多くの家庭にトイレがないという問題があり、学生たちはトイレの建設を行ったり、子どもたちに英語を教えたり、壁にペインティングをしてきました。
今回は、ベトナムプログラムを担当するPaul先生にインタビューをしました！
Q1: Why did you choose Vietnam as this program?
（地域創生プログラムの場所になぜベトナムを選んだのですか？）
| Paul: | It’s difficult to say because I have a really long answer. I participated in a lot of service learning programs like preparing lunch for elementary school students in the Philippines, and cleaning up a forest and a village in Vietnam. When I joined 地域創生科目, one of my former seminar students at NUFS was the connection with NICE because he works for the NGO, NICE. Through the discussion with many Collabo teachers, I wanted to choose the countries from South-East Asia. Also, I love Vietnam from past volunteering experience. The most important thing in this program for me is that it is a SIGNIFICANT EXPERIENCE. From that background and reasons, I decided to choose Vietnam for the toilet building project in a rural village. |
| Paul: | (答えがすごく長くなってしまうので、難しいですが・・・(笑) 私はこれまでに何個もボランティア活動に参加していました。*サービスラーニングというのですが、例えばフィリピンで小学校の給食を準備したり、ベトナムで森林や村をきれいにしたりしました。地域創生科目に参加するにあたって、昔私のゼミにいた学生がNICEというNGO団体で働いているので、世界共生学科とNICEの架け橋となってくれました。先生方と話し合う中で、東南アジアのどこかの国でプログラムを行いたいと考えました。これまでのボランティアの経験からも、私自身ベトナムが好きなんです。私にとってこの科目で最も大事だと思うことは “SIGNIFICANT EXPERIENCE” です。だから、ベトナムの田舎村でトイレを作るというプログラムをすることに決めました。)

Q2: What have you done in this Vietnam program？
（ベトナムプログラムではどのようなことをしてきましたか？）
| Paul: | There are three things we have ever done. 1.Building a toilet, 2. Painting on the wall of the local elementary school, 3. English lessons for children in the village.
Do you know about the United Nations 17 SDGs by 2030? Goal No.6 is “Clean water and Sanitation”. Those are really important. Around the world, 2.4 billion people don’t have access to a normal toilet and 600 million people have to go outside instead of using a toilet. So, in this program, the main project is the toilet building project. Also, we painted on the wall of the local elementary school in 2020 because we had a lot of students who joined the Vietnam program and need to make two groups. From designed to painting, students did all the processes by themselves. In addition, students teach children English. It is fun but a little bit difficult. We can’t speak Vietnamese and nobody in the village speaks English, but the children are really cute and eager to learn. That was a hard project because we didn’t know anything and the place is a very rural village. It was definitely challenging. (三つのことをやりました。1．トイレを作る 2．小学校の壁にペイントする 3．村の子どもたちに英語を教える 国連が決めたSDGsの2030年までの目標17つを知っていますか？6番目は「安全な水とトイレを世界中に」です。世界には24億人の人が普通のトイレに行けず、6億人もの人が屋外へ用を足しに行かなければならないという状況にあります。だから、このプロジェクトでは、トイレを立てることが主なプロジェクトになっています。 また、小学校の壁に絵をかきました。2020年のプログラムは多くの学生が参加してくれたので2グループに分けたんです。デザインから色塗りまですべての過程を学生自身がやってくれました。 そして、学生たちは村の子どもたちに英語を教えました。楽しいですけど少し大変です。私たちはベトナム語を話せないし、村の人たちも英語を話さないですから。でも子供はほんとにかわいいし、熱心に勉強します＾＾ 何も知らなかったし、場所もとても田舎の村なので、とても大変でした。“挑戦”という言葉がふさわしいですね。) |
Q3: What is great about Vietnam and this Vietnam program
（ベトナムや、ベトナムプログラムの魅力は何ですか？）
| Paul: | First of all, it is a chance as I said to experience doing something very important. We do something SIGNIFICANT for the community. I think it is important for this program. And we can feel sense of accomplishment through contributing to the community.
Also, students get a chance to go somewhere that they probably have never been to. We go to a place where nobody would go on their own. Normally tourists can’t experience any place or anything like this. I really like Vietnam. The people are really nice, very hard-working, family-oriented and the food is so good. (まず、私がすでに言ったように何か一番大切なことを経験できるチャンスだということです。それは、コミュニティにとってSIGNIFICANT なことを行うこと。これがこのプログラムで一番重要なことだと思います。そして、コミュニティに貢献することで達成感を得られます。 また、学生たちは多分これまで訪れたことがないような地域に行くことが出来ます。自分ではいかないような場所に行きますから。普通の観光客は経験できないことでしょう。 私はベトナムがとても好きです。ベトナムの人々はとても優しく、まじめで、家族を大切にします。ごはんもとてもおいしいです。) |
──I really hope this program will restart after everything is back to normal!
（落ち着いたらこのプログラムがまた再開できるといいですね！）
| Paul: | Yeah, we couldn’t do anything in this situation. I regret it, but hopefully this year we can do this program again. I have some new ideas, so next time, we will be much better and more prepared!!
(ほんとにね。この状況では何もできなかったので後悔しています。でもできれば今年また再開できるといいな。いくつか新しいアイデアがあるので、次回はより有意義になるでしょう！) |
ベトナムプログラムは座学よりも圧倒的にアクティビティを通して地域社会の直面する課題に取り組むプログラムだとわかりましたね。体を張ってコミュニティに貢献し、地域の人々と交流すると、より達成感が生まれそうです！
事前研修ではベトナム語を学ぶ機会もあるので、多くのことを吸収できるプログラムですね！
